For primary publications, the main author list at the top of the manuscript will include investigators who have significantly participated in developing and analyzing the data in the manuscript. These authors will include contributors of the major cohorts used, investigators performing the analysis, and investigators contributing to the organization of the ADGC. The ADGC will also appear as an author group at the top with investigators who contributed samples, phenotype data, and participated in the ADGC as authors appearing as a footnote. Authors in the footnote will have full credit and responsibilities of authors in more typical formats.
Qualification as an author will follow typical academic criteria. To qualify as an author, an individual will need to contribute to study design, and/or study execution, and/or preparation of results for publication. For some publications, a large number of authors will be appropriate. The number of authors will not be a consideration when the author list is compiled. Each site will determine who should be an author for a particular publication and the site will be asked to describe the contribution by each author nominated. Again, the number of contributing individuals from a site will be determined by contribution, not by number.
In publications, the PI will acknowledge the contribution of submitters who generated genetic analysis data received from the ADGC in any and all oral and written presentations, disclosures, publications, and patents resulting from any and all analysis of genetic analysis data and associated phenotypic data received from the ADGC. The PI will provide to the ADGC yearly upon the anniversary of the signing of this document with a list of all such presentations, disclosures, publications, and patents. The PI will use the following acknowledgement:
Acknowledgement: Biological samples and associated phenotypic data used in primary data analysis were stored at the Principal Investigator’s institutions, and at the National Cell Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease (NCRAD), at the NIA Genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease Data Storage Site (NIAGADS) at the University of Pennsylvania, and the NIA Alzheimer’s Disease Genetics Consortium Data Storage Site at the University of Pennsylvania. Contributors to the genetic analysis data included Principal Investigators on projects that were individually funded by NIA, other NIH institutes, or private entities.
In secondary publications, young investigators will be encouraged to develop analyses, plan experiments, and to lead projects within the consortium. In those cases, the author line may include a limited number of individuals followed by the ADGC with other authors in the footnote.
Not all ADGC publications will include all ADGC members. For each publication, the groups and sites that contribute will be included as authors according to qualifications identified above.
Once data becomes widely available in a qualified public access database, the ADGC will require acknowledgement. However, ADGC investigators are still encouraged to jointly publish additional analyses.
